Sticking to Your Healthy Resolutions This New Year

Sticking to Your Healthy Resolutions This New Year

The time has come to say goodbye to 2018 and welcome in 2019 with open arms. The end of the year is always a little bittersweet, reminiscing on years gone by yet looking forward to our bright futures. 2018 was a hell of a year- we accomplished so much, and we’re sure you did too! But there is always room for improvement. With the New Year comes new resolutions, new goals, new commitments, and new challenges. Setting new goals for yourself is an excellent way to kick off the new year, but unfortunately, it’s very common for people to fall short of their ambitions.

We get it. Life happens and things can get in the way of accomplishing your goals, but it’s important to dedicate the time to allowing yourself to grow. New Year’s resolutions aren’t about sharing a #NewYearNewMe post on social media; they’re about actually putting in the work towards becoming a better you. Whether you’re planning on changing your eating habits, exercising more, or journaling every day, here’s our best advice for achieving your healthy resolutions in 2019.

Reevaluate Your Resolutions

Here’s how this typically goes:

You set your goals at the beginning of the year and follow them through till the end of January. They become too hard, you don’t have the time, or whatever other excuses you come up with, so you give up. DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOURSELF. That’s the worst possible thing you can do. If your healthy resolutions become too much to handle, sit down and reevaluate them. This gives you the chance to reassess your goals and decide how you can actually accomplish them. Maybe your original intentions were a bit too ambitious or outside of your means, but this is the perfect opportunity to recommit yourself to something a little more attainable.

Reconnect with Your Reasoning

Why did you set these resolutions in the first place? If you’re struggling to continue working towards your goals, remember why you chose them. Are you switching to a plant-based diet for health reasons? Or maybe you’re doing it for the environment. Whatever your reasoning, make sure the benefit is clear. This will be a constant reminder as to why you need to push forward. As long as you still feel passionate about your goals, you’ll understand why they are worth working towards.

Redefine Your Resolutions

Once you’ve decided what you’re 100% certain about accomplishing, redefine how you’re actually going to make it happen. Redefining your goals allows you to make a solid game plan to achieve broad intentions. Did you choose to dedicate more time to the gym? Create a schedule that is doable for your lifestyle and stick with it. Are you planning on cooking healthier meals at home? Create a list of meals you enjoy and plan out their recipes. All it takes is a few simple steps. Figuring out what these changes actually look like to you makes accomplishing them that much easier.

Refocus Your Mind

This one is huge. If you don’t have the right mindset, how on Earth are you going to support yourself through these changes?! Sometimes, healthy resolutions require a bit of an adjustment. If you give up the minute the going gets tough, you’ll never meet your goals. It’s easy to burn out on any resolution if you don’t have the momentum and motivation to keep going. The best way to stay focused? Visualize yourself meeting your goals. Once you remember what you’re doing this for, it will be easier to get back on track.

Relax & Replenish

The most important part of committing to any new change is listening to your body. Everyone is their own worst critic, but pushing yourself beyond your limits can be catastrophic. No matter your goals, you need a strong body to achieve them. Don’t forget to dedicate enough time to relaxation and nourishment. If your body is telling you it’s time for a break, take one. By no means does this equate to completing giving up on your goals. It simply means giving yourself time to reenergize so you can come back stronger than ever.

With these tips in mind, you’re on your way to making 2019 your best year yet. So, what are your New Year’s resolutions? Write them down and make it your mission to achieve them. And don’t forget to reward yourself along the way. Perhaps a Small Seed Bar will do the trick! 😉

Happy New Year!
