Easy Vegan Desserts to Satisfy that Sweet Tooth
The most common misconception of veganism is that the plant-based diet is “lacking.” Lacking nutrients, lacking protein, lacking flavor, lacking variety…on and on it goes. Now, if you’ve been following us for a while, you know that’s definitely not true. But there’s one thing a lot of people seem to forget- desserts. Many people are under the misguided impression that the plant-based diet doesn’t allow any sweet treats or guilty pleasures.
A lot of people seem to think, “I can’t eat eggs, so I can’t have any baked goods.” Or they’ll think, “I don’t eat dairy, so I can’t have ice cream.” But think about it for a second. You really think the entire plant-based community has completely given up desserts?! As if! Just like your regular everyday meals, it’s all about finding healthy, plant-based alternatives. Expand your horizons and you can make pretty much anything plant-based.
If you’re one of those people that gets a hankering for something sweet every now and then, you’re not alone. And just because you’re a vegan doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to indulge! So when that craving gets too strong and you can’t resist that sweet tooth, try out these simple vegan dessert recipes.
Let’s start off with something simple and traditional. Everyone loves a nice, warm chocolate chip cookie! And here’s a bonus- these guys are even gluten-free! All you need to do is mix water, flaxseed, brown sugar, coconut oil, baking soda, salt, vanilla extract, almond flour, and dairy-free chocolate chips. Combine the wets and dries in separate bowls and then mix together. It may seem like a lot, but it’s exactly like baking regular chocolate chip cookies- just without the eggs! Bake in the oven at 375° for 12 to 15 minutes, or to your desired softness. Then, grab a glass of your favorite non-dairy milk and enjoy!
There’s just something so heavenly about a freshly baked brownie. And this recipe is one of the best because it only requires 5 ingredients. The main ingredient is dates. These act as the binding agent for the batter. They also naturally sweeten the brownies and create that fudgy texture we all love so much. All you need to do is blend them in a food processor and add hot water to create a sticky paste. Then, all you need is your favorite nut butter (nice and creamy), coconut oil, cacao powder, and water. Mix all the ingredients together and you’re ready to bake! Pop these in the oven at 350° for about 15 minutes and enjoy! Feel free to add dairy-free chocolate chips or your favorite chopped nuts for that extra flavor and texture.
Do you ever crave a piece of cake, but don’t feel like indulging in the whole piece? Cake pops are the perfect solution! They’re super simple to make- they don’t even require an oven. This tasty treat also calls for dates as the main ingredient. Just like with the brownies, the dates need to be blended in a food processor. Once blended, scoop them out and set aside for later. Then, mix almond flour, coconut flour, and cacao powder in a bowl. Add the dates back in along with coconut cream, vanilla extract, and maple syrup (the best natural sweetener!). Once you’ve made a tacky dough, scoop out 1.5 tablespoons and roll into little balls. Place them on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and set in the freezer for about 10 minutes. If you’re the type who is all about the frosting on cake, there are plenty of plant-based glaze recipes out there for you. And if you feel like going the extra mile, top off your cake pops with some shredded coconut, chopped nuts, or any of your other favorite toppings. Yum!
This milkshake brings all the boys to the yard! Or the ladies. Whatever floats your boat. On a serious note, this milkshake really is out of this world. And it’s incredibly easy to make. All you need is 3 simple ingredients! Remember when we mentioned ice cream earlier? Yeah, vegan ice cream is definitely a thing. Here’s what you’ll need to do. Pick up some non-dairy coconut ice cream and blend it with cocoa powder and coffee. That’s literally it! Adjust the amount of coffee and cocoa powder to your specific taste. If you’re having trouble getting a nice, creamy blend, add a little bit of almond milk to help get things moving. Once you get the perfect consistency, you’re good to go! You’ll never miss out on ice cream ever again.
